Are you interested in becoming more involved with the Louisville Democratic Party? Now is the time!

We are currently in the process of re-organizing the party from the grassroots level to the top. This means electing new party officials from the precinct level up to the national level. There are dozens of ways to get involved, and it’s happening right now!

It Starts at the Precincts

Precincts are the building blocks for everything that the party does, and precinct leaders help manage these blocks. Think of them as neighborhood advocates. There are over 600 precincts in Louisville, and every one has 3 leadership positions for Democrats: and Precinct Man, Precinct Woman, and Precinct Youth (Age 40 and under). This is the team that will make sure that the constituents in their neighborhoods are up-to-date on everything that Democrats are doing in the community. This could include:

  • Canvassing your neighborhood to introduce yourself and discuss key issues

  • Encouraging voter registration and participation

  • Providing voters with information on candidates and policies

  • Establishing connections with local organizations

  • Strengthening our presence within the precinct

  • Serving as a liaison between the community and the local Democratic Party

Are you able to give an hour or two a month and are interested in serving as a Precinct leader? You can nominate yourself or someone else for a position. You can also register to participate in the virtual precinct conventions without running for a precinct leadership position. The window to nominate or register is open from April 1 to April 30, and Precinct Conventions will take place virtually from May 8 to May 10.

Legislative Districts and County Executive Committee

The second step is the Legislative District level. Legislative Districts (LDs) are the same districts that the Kentucky House of Representatives use for their elections. These are larger districts, and come with more responsibilities. There are 18 LDs in Louisville, and each one is represented by a Chair, Vice-Chair, and At-Large Chair on the Louisville Democratic Party Executive Committee. These LD Chairs are important strategic leaders that are responsible for ensuring our success each election. In addition to the duties of a precinct leader, our LD Chairs will be:

  • Running district meetings and ensuring communication between precinct captains, volunteers, and the county or state party

  • Coordinating campaign efforts such as voter outreach, fundraising, and volunteer mobilization

  • Participating in party conventions, committee meetings, and leadership discussions

  • Organizing canvassing, phone banking, and other get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts

  • Recruiting and training volunteers for party and campaign activities.

  • Organizing community events to strengthen Democratic visibility and support

Legislative District Chairs play a crucial role in ensuring Democratic success in elections
by fostering strong local organization and community engagement. Interested in serving as an LD Chair? Elections for all LDs will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 17th at Hartford Hall in JCTC. Reminder: In order to vote for an LD position, you must be an elected Precinct leader.

State Central Executive Committee

The third step is to become involved at the State level. The State Central Executive Committee (SCEC) of the Kentucky Democratic Party is the leadership body responsible for guiding and managing party operations at the state level. The SCEC is composed of highly-engaged individuals that are working to re-establish the success of Democrats throughout Kentucky. Each Congressional District has 5 representatives on SCEC: 2 Men, 2 Women, and one Youth (Age 40 and under).

Interested in serving on SCEC? The Kentucky Democratic Convention will take place on June 14 in Owensboro. More details to come.
